ABOUT United Nations Capital Development Fund

UNCDF –The UN Capital Development Fund makes public and private finance work for the poor in the world’s 47 least developed countries (LDCs). With its capital mandate and instruments, UNCDF offers “last mile” finance models that unlock public and private resources, especially at the domestic level, to reduce poverty and support local economic development. UNCDF’s financing models work through two channels: financial inclusion that expands the opportunities for individuals, households, and small businesses to participate in the local economy, providing them with the tools they need to climb out of poverty and manage their financial lives; and localized investments that show how fiscal decentralization, innovative municipal finance, and structured project finance can drive public and private funding that underpins local economic expansion and sustainable development. 

THE CHALLENGE

In order to facilitate ongoing discussions on programme management and corporate development, the Local Development Finance Practice (LDFP) at the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) holds the internal meeting online every Thursday. It provides a great opportunity for colleagues around the world to get updates, brainstorm and be engaged in the conversations. However, due to limitation of other teleconference systems that LDFP had used such as the incompatibility for interpretation service, the participation of francophone colleagues was low, thus disadvantaged for teambuilding. .

THE SOLUTION AND RESULTS

LDFP has been using the VoiceBoxer system for the weekly global teleconference and other bilingual meetings since October 2016. It has not only facilitated meetings with professional interpretation, but also provided timely technical support and customer service during and after the meetings.
