In a previous post, we talked about interpreter connection, and what interpreters can do with their hardware and connectivity to make the most of their virtual booth. In this post, we discuss what speakers can do to be sure interpreters get the best quality audio in order to do their jobs to the best of their profound abilities during an online communication.
In fact, most of what a speaker can do is the same as what we discussed an interpreter can do. It comes down to two main things: Connection and headset. To ensure your interpreters and your audience can focus on what you say in your webinar or web presentation, ensure a strong internet connection. To ensure the connection stays reliable, strong requires more than high bandwidth; you should connect via wired (Ethernet) connection instead of wireless. When it’s up to you to ensure your interpreters and audience get the most consistent and audible audio stream from you, ensure your internet connection is set up to deliver it.
The second most important detail is the headset. Specifically, having a dependable microphone will ensure that our audio is strong and clear. Of course, with VoiceBoxer’s new interactive features, any speaker is unlikely to be the ONLY speaker, and having good quality earphones will make the listening experience better. When presenting, however, make sure you use an external microphone to ensure the best quality audio comes through. Using your computer’s internal mic leaves it susceptible to ambient noise and other sounds that will reduce sound quality and detract from your message.
When conversing online, one last thing to remember is to point your webcam at you. Having a clear and steady view of your mouth and facial expressions will help your interpreters and audience understand what you’re saying and the subtle, specific meanings behind what you say.
Tune in next week, where we discuss style choices a speaker can make to ensure your audience enjoy the best experience from your interpreted presentation.
